There are two rock-shelter sites here at the Ranch; one dates back 8,000 years and the second 2,000 years. These sites have been the focus of excavation for seminar groups for several years. Dr. Florence Hawley Ellis spent many years at Ghost Ranch teaching, excavating and cataloging discoveries from the area. Our anthropology museum bears Dr. Ellis’ name and includes artifacts from several different indigenous tribes who have lived and hunted in this area.
