We will also build skills by reviewing specific techniques that help students translate their vision onto the paper.  Sharing her palette and painting  technique, the teacher will help students learn how to simplify compositions and create colorful, high toned paintings. We will also hike or ride to special spots on the ranch. Although this course is geared to intermediate painters, beginners may be accepted after discussion with the instructor.

Sandra Schroeder’s vibrant paintings are impressionistic, experimental and sometimes abstract renderings of land and nature forms. She relies on the fluidity and transparency of the watercolor medium to capture the intense high desert light, colored cliffs, and immense shifting skies of New Mexico.    Although she was trained in the basics at the Art Institute of Chicago, Sandra believes her best teacher has been her attunement with the land itself and plein air painting. These have helped the “beauty of the land flow through my eyes and fingertips onto the paper”.  She has been painting watercolors for over 25 years and, since retiring from a research career in Chicago, has devoted many years painting and hiking the Ghost Ranch.   She is a signature member of the NM watercolor society and has exhibited in both NM and Chicago.
