Give your spirit the gift of time for creative exploration! Through guided exercises with themes of process and play, meditation, and mark-making, plein-air and personal journaling, participants will be encouraged to uncover new insights, inspiration, and form with the beautiful medium of soft pastel. The workshop will include reflective drawing exercises, plein-air landscape experiences, and intuitive abstract drawing based on outdoor experiences in nature. A great workshop for beginners or artists who would like to add new approaches to their practice. Participants will learn to use the soft pastel medium in various techniques including pastel sketching with charcoal, direct gestural work, and layered, textured pieces, and more. No previous pastel experience is required. Come recharge your art-making spirits in the beautiful high desert and find new form for your creative practice. Beginners welcome!

Maureen T O'Neill
Maureen O’Neill grew up in Holyoke, Massachusetts and received her B.F.A. in Painting from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and her M.F.A. in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. She is the director of exhibitions and educational programming for the Barton College Art Galleries and Assistant Professor of Art in the Department of Art, Barton College. She was the recipient of the Lincoln Financial Faculty Member of the Year Award in 2021. In addition to her classes at Barton College, Maureen leads workshops in drawing meditation and pastel drawing at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, the Wilson Arts Center in Wilson, NC and Saint Anne’s Chapel in Tarboro, NC.
