Learn how to make sterling-silver jewelry without hammering or soldering in this workshop with jewelry
artist, Liza Samuel. Using silver metal clay, a clay-like material made of fine particles of sterling silver,
water, and a nontoxic binder, participants will mold, texture, and layer the material to make a pendant
using simple tools. The work will then be dried and fired using a torch to burn away the binder and leave
a unique object that is 92.5% pure sterling silver. The finished, torch-fired silver jewelry or object will
then be converted into a pendant, ring, earrings, wall hanging, etc for you to take home.

Liza is the founder and designer of her jewelry brand, LIZA, born from the rich landscape and unique spirit of Marfa. Inspired by the rugged desert, open skies, and artistic community that surrounds her, she crafts each piece by hand, blending natural shapes with a modern, artisanal touch. Prior to forming her practice of jewelry making, Liza created paintings with foraged biological pigments. This pursuit of color found in nature led her to rockhounding and eventually lapidary, the process of cutting stones to be set into jewelry.

Liza believes in celebrating the raw elegance of the earth, embracing imperfections to create one-of-a-kind, wearable art. Every necklace, ring, and bracelet is thoughtfully designed to be timeless, with subtle textures and flowing forms that echo the western landscape.
Rooted in sustainability and slow fashion, she prioritizes locally-sourced materials and ethical practices, ensuring that each creation not only honors the environment but also supports the vibrant community of Marfa she calls home.
