Interested in Service Learning? Would you like to learn how to build backcountry trails? Ghost Ranch is hosting a Spring Break trail building clinic for high school age students. The clinic will combine coaching by Laura Hand, Outdoor Adventures Manager and hands-on experience. Trail building participants will also get the opportunity to work alongside Carson National Forest personnel and an Americorps team. The clinic will be 2 days.
Skills learned including but not limited to: safe and proper use of trail building tools, bench cuts – breaking new trail, rock work and restoration of old trail back to natural landscape
Participants need to bring – closed toes shoes (preferably work boots), sunglasses, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sun protective clothing), water, personal snacks, day pack, clothing layers (preparing for all types of weather) and gloves (if available).

Laura Hand
Laura Hand is the Outdoor Adventures and Wellness Manager at Ghost Ranch. She carries over 30 years of personal training, outdoor safety and wellness practices and public education experience. Laura has a BS in Outdoor Education/Kinesiology, and an MA in Education.
Laura specializes in developing curriculum and activities that provide enjoyable, informational, and meaningful growth experiences for all participants. Sharing her experience, knowledge, and joy of safely moving through the outdoor environment is her passion.
Because safety is at the forefront of all life adventures, Laura is certified and practices first aid skills, including Basic First Aid, CPR, Wilderness First Aid, and Wilderness First Responder.
When not working, Laura enjoys spending outside time with her teenage children who have grown up way too fast!
